On Monday, Real Madrid announced that they have secured an agreement for Kylian Mbappe to join the team for the next five seasons. The 25-year-old World Cup winner shared on social media that signing with Real Madrid was “a dream come true.” Reports suggest that the French soccer star will receive a signing-on bonus of at least £85 million ($108.4 million) over the next five years as part of his transfer to the Spanish giants.

The club’s brief statement confirmed the agreement but did not disclose any financial specifics. Mbappe is set to officially join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends in June.

Different media sources have reported various financial details regarding the deal. According to Sky Sports, Mbappe will receive a signing bonus slightly exceeding £85 million from Real Madrid, with the amount to be paid in installments over his five-year contract.

Separately, the BBC reported that Mbappe would receive a signing-on bonus of 150 million euros ($162.9 million) over five years, amounting to 15 million euros per season, while retaining a percentage of his image rights.

CNBC was unable to independently verify these reports. A spokesperson for Real Madrid did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment. CNBC has also reached out to Mbappe.

Mbappe, who has long been a prime target for Real Madrid, shared on social media that signing with the club was “a dream come true.” “I am so happy and proud to join the club of my dreams @realmadrid,” Mbappe posted on the social media platform X on Monday. “No one can understand how excited I am right now.”

The post, written in Spanish, English, and French, included photos of a young Mbappe wearing a Real Madrid jacket during a visit to the club. One photo showed him meeting former Real Madrid player and five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Confirmation of Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid came shortly after the Spanish club won the Champions League final for a record-extending 15th time. Mbappe scored 44 goals for Paris Saint-Germain last season, helping the club secure its twelfth Ligue 1 title. The striker has been the leading scorer in the French top flight for the past six years.
