Teen’s murder case of ex-AFL masseuse delayed to the new year

Alexander Mark Sutton, a 19-year-old, is accused of killing Patrik Weiss, a former Australian handball coach and former massage therapist for an AFL team. Weiss, 45, was found dead in his Lockridge residence in Perth on June 12, with bound hands and a blindfold. Sutton’s legal case is expected to continue into 2024 after his recent appearance in Perth’s Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court via video link from Hakea Prison.

His lawyer, Katherine Dowling, sought a 12-week extension while awaiting the report’s findings. Prosecutor Sean Stocks proposed a 16-week delay, but the case was rescheduled to February 7 for a review, characterized by the Magistrate as a “health check.” Mr. Weiss’s death, leaving behind two children, prompted the launch of Western Australia Police’s Operation Bulb.

Patrik Weiss, a well-respected figure in both the world of handball and Australian football, met a grisly fate in his northeastern Perth home.
