Texas Clinches Second Straight NCAA Title Shot, Defeats Wisconsin

The University of Texas solidified its chance to vie for the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship by prevailing over Wisconsin 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-13, 25-16) at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla., on Thursday.

With a record of 27-4, Texas advances to meet Nebraska (33-1) in the final on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 12 p.m. PT, airing live on ABC. Wisconsin concludes its season with an impressive 30-4 record.

This marks the eighth national championship appearance for Texas, a team that has clinched the title three times. Under the guidance of Head Coach Jerritt Elliott, the Longhorns eagerly anticipate a high-stakes showdown with Nebraska, aiming to secure the championship against the Huskers.

Texas outside hitter Madisen Skinner emerged as the leading scorer with 24 points, contributing 18 kills and six aces. Skinner, eyeing her third National Championship, played a pivotal role in Texas’ commanding performance. Middle blocker Asjia O’Neal and setter Ella Swindle were instrumental in orchestrating the team’s success, with O’Neal scoring 15 points and Swindle contributing six.

The offensive prowess of opposite Molly Phillips and outside hitter Jenna Wenaas complemented Texas’ stellar performance, while libero Emma Halter exhibited defensive excellence with 19 digs. On the opposing side, middle blocker Anna Smrek led Wisconsin with 15 points, and outside hitter Sarah Franklin contributed 14.5 points.

The much-anticipated final between Texas and Nebraska promises to be a historic and iconic matchup, set to be broadcast live on ABC.

Texas secured their second consecutive opportunity at the NCAA title, emerging victorious over Wisconsin.
