Cardi B and Sha’Carri Richardson recently had their nails done together, with Cardi calling Richardson a true “lit girl.” Like many others, Cardi is excited for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris starting on Friday (July 26). Unlike most, though, the “Bongos” rapper got to spend time with one of Team USA’s most exciting athletes, sharing encouraging words during their manicure session.
“You stand out because the fastest woman in the world? She’s a real lit girl,” Cardi told Richardson in an NBC segment promoting the network’s Olympics coverage. “You’re someone I could really hang out with, really chill with, really be cool with, really be like… GIRL!” Cardi added.
Richardson, a top contender for the gold medal in the 100 meters in Paris after missing the 2021 Tokyo Games due to a positive marijuana test, appeared genuinely touched by Cardi’s compliment.
“I’m really, really proud of you, seriously, because you came back stronger than ever with your talent,” Cardi said, possibly reflecting on her own career as she continues to tease her much-anticipated follow-up to her 2018 debut album, Invasion of Privacy. “You’ve evolved.”
Richardson, blushing at the praise, replied, “Enough about me. You are Miss Cardi B, and I feel like the way you’re saying I inspire people, you have that same impact. Just being yourself inspires so many.”
This heartfelt moment almost brought Cardi to tears. She reiterated her pride in Richardson’s achievements, and they continued to admire each other’s strength and determination. “You almost walked away, but this is what you love,” Cardi said.
“And rapping is what I love, and I can’t walk away from what I love because of how others make me feel.” Richardson then urged Cardi to finish her next album so she can have new music to train to. “I need my race day album,” Richardson said. “I need some new songs!”
While Cardi didn’t reveal any news about her album, she left the conversation feeling “inspired” and “warm” from Richardson’s positive vibes. “The energy… I feel it, girl,” Cardi said, tearing up. “You’re so special. You’re really more than just an athlete; you’re really special.” The two women then shared a heartfelt hug.
Wishing @itsshacarri sooooo much luck!! You bought so much emotion out of me because your words and your spirit is so powerful. Seeing your growth after people tried to turn their back on you is so inspirational to me.. You are more than just a athlete, you are a SUPERHERO and I… pic.twitter.com/twacJPd8eU

Cardi posted the clip on X, accompanied by an inspirational message: “Wishing @itsshacarri so much luck!! You brought out so much emotion in me because your words and spirit are so powerful. Your growth, even when people tried to turn their backs on you, is incredibly inspiring to me. You are more than just an athlete; you are a SUPERHERO. I can’t wait to see where the next 10 years take you because you’re already a legend.”
While Richardson, like the rest of us, eagerly awaits Cardi’s new music, she’s making her own headlines. After winning the world championship in the 100 meters last year, she recently clocked a world season-best 10.71 to win the 100 at the U.S. trials last month.
