Paris 2024: Snoop Dogg Carries Olympic Flame

Snoop Dogg, the famous 52-year-old American rapper, carried the Paris 2024 Olympic flame near the Stade-de-France in Saint-Denis (93) this Friday morning. With over 40 million albums sold, he displayed his dance moves during the event. Throughout the 200-meter run, like all the torchbearers, he alternated between walking and running, never losing his smile.

After carrying the flame, he briefly spoke to France Télévisions, expressing, “What love, what peace, what unity, what respect. That’s what the Olympic Games are all about, showing love.” Snoop Dogg will also be a consultant for NBC during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Why was the 52-year-old star selected as one of the torchbearers for Paris 2024?

It’s a valid question. This isn’t his first engagement with the Olympics. In 2021, the artist gained attention by commenting on the highlights of the Tokyo Games on the American channel NBC, alongside comedian Kevin Hart.

The pair produced several memorable segments that went viral, including during the horse dressage competition, and these clips now boast millions of views on streaming platforms.

The rapper’s trip to Paris this year was more due to his involvement with the American channel than his role in carrying the Olympic flame. Snoop Dogg was invited by NBC to commentate on the Games, covering everything from competitions and athlete interviews to visits to notable landmarks.

In addition to his global fame and comedic skills, his hometown drew the organizers’ interest. Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., hails from Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Summer Olympics.

In a press release, the Californian rapper shared his excitement: “I grew up watching the Olympics and I’m thrilled to see the incredible athletes outdoing themselves in Paris. It’s a celebration of talent, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness.”

The Long Beach-born MC has been a global sensation since the 1990s, starting with his debut album Doggystyle in 1993, known for his relaxed yet provocative rap style. With over 40 million albums sold worldwide, he has epitomized the cool of the West Coast, merging funk and hip-hop for thirty years.

Beyond his musical achievements, he has appeared in various films, including Training Day as Blue and Scary Movie 5 as Marcus. Snoop Dogg’s dynamic presence is vital for adding excitement to the Games and rallying the American community. Thus, the decision to choose him as a torchbearer proves to be a well-considered one.
