Mika de Guzman clinched her maiden international women’s singles title by triumphing over India’s Arundhati Nagaraja Muddu in the championship match of the APACS Kazakhstan International Series 2023 held at the Almatau Resort in Shymkent last weekend. This event, classified as a grade 3, level 2 series in the BWF International Series, presented 2500 points to the victor.
Despite being the fourth seed, de Guzman asserted her dominance with a 40-minute victory over Muddu in the final, securing a scoreline of 21-13, 21-17. Earlier in the competition, she defeated Aisha Zhumabek and Smit Toshniwal in the Round of 16 and second round, respectively, before overcoming top-ranked Fatimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq in the semifinals.

In another notable achievement, junior athletes JR Pandi and Mary Destiny Untal claimed the U17 mixed doubles gold at the BAT Pathumthani Junior International Series 2023 in Thailand. As part of the Philippine Badminton Association’s grassroots development program, Pandi and Untal led a contingent of 41 junior shuttlers in the competition.
Pandi and Untal, products of the Junior Philippine National Rankings series, achieved success in their campaign. Additionally, Shan Clar and Althea Dawn Ocampo emerged victorious in the U19 Boys and Girls Singles titles in the Laguna leg of the series. MJ Perez, a newcomer from National University, secured two titles in the U19 Boys Doubles and U19 Mixed Doubles, partnering with Gift Libanan and Niesha De Guzman, respectively. Althea Princess Hernandez and Precious Libaton clinched the Girls Doubles title in the same age group.
