Ortega Moreno’s outstanding display in the Premier League

Stefan Ortega Moreno has a remarkable record of blocking 11 out of 13 shots on target when he’s substituted into matches. Throughout this Premier League season, the German goalkeeper has filled in for Ederson in various games, including away matches against Newcastle, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, and most recently, Tottenham Hotspur.

During his latest appearance, Ortega Moreno entered the game in the 69th minute of the previous win. He made three crucial saves while the score remained 0-1, ensuring that Manchester City team kept its lead intact.

This impressive streak highlights Ortega Moreno’s ability to save the last 11 shots directed at his goal. His exceptional performance in the match earned him the Man of the Match award at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. With this victory, City is now just one win away from clinching a historic fourth consecutive Premier League title.

Spurs’ xG of 1.66, which implies that Tottenham were essentially expected to score two goals given their opportunities, highlights the goalkeeper’s outstanding performance. Throughout the season, he has featured in 18 games, including all FA Cup matches.

Both of City’s goals against Spurs were executed by Erling Haaland, who now seems highly probable to clinch the Premier League’s Golden Boot. Haaland has tallied 27 goals in 30 league appearances thus far this season. The first goal was set up by his remarkable partnership with Kevin De Bruyne.

This assist marked De Bruyne’s 112th in the Premier League, positioning him second in the league’s history for this category. He achieved this milestone in just 259 games. By comparison, Cesc Fábregas, third on the list with 111 assists, needed 350 Premier League games.

Furthermore, this marked the 19th instance of De Bruyne assisting Haaland since the start of the 2022/23 season, which is nine more than the Premier League’s next most prolific partnership: Núñez-Salah. Erling Haaland’s 27 goals in the Premier League firmly cement his position for a second consecutive Golden Boot, leading by six goals over his closest rival, Cole Palmer, who has scored 21.

Despite a five-month injury layoff, Kevin De Bruyne has still managed to notch 10 assists in the Premier League, placing him second in this category, trailing Ollie Watkins by three assists.

Rodrigo’s completion of 3,508 passes is noteworthy, surpassing Lewis Dunk’s total by 332 passes, who ranks second in pass completion in the Premier League. Rúben Dias, Manuel Akanji, and Kyle Walker all feature among the league’s top 20 for passes completed.

As a team, City’s tally of 93 goals is four more than Arsenal, the next highest-scoring team in the division. In addition, City has the second-best defensive record in the league, giving up just 33 goals. They have completed 25,469 passes overall, more than 3,000 more than any other team.
