Real Madrid resumed to winning ways with a dominant 3-0 victory over Girona in La Liga on Saturday, thanks to goals from Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappé, and Arda Güer. After a difficult first half, Los Blancos rediscovered their groove in the second, with Bellingham commanding play and Mbappé improving significantly before Tuesday’s vital Champions League match against Atalanta.
Girona opened well, creating many chances but failing to capitalize, allowing Madrid to take advantage. Bellingham broke the deadlock with a thunderous strike from the edge of the box that went through a throng of defenders.
The Englishman also contributed to the second goal, assisting Arda Güler, who slid the ball past the goalkeeper after a smart move. Mbappé sealed the victory by surpassing his marker and firing a low shot into the bottom corner from a tight angle.
Madrid maintained control for the duration of the game, but it was not without incident. Injury concerns arose when Jude Bellingham was substituted on the hour mark after clutching his thigh, and Ferland Mendy also required medical treatment. Despite these difficulties, the victory was a reassuringly comfortable performance from the reigning champs after a difficult stretch.
Real Madrid players ratings vs. Girona
Real Madrid Defense
Thibaut Courtois (7/10):
In the early phases, I stepped up when necessary and dealt effectively with pressure. A clean sheet will undoubtedly bring relief.
Lucas Vázquez (6/10):
I struggled to keep Bryan Gil under control. While his effort and work rate were obvious, his defensive talents were severely lacking.
Aurélien Tchouaméni (6/10): An unexpected starter due to his recent inconsistent performance. Unfortunately, his performance did little to appease his detractors, as he appeared unstable throughout.
Antonio Rüdiger (8/10):
From beginning to end, he exuded confidence. Dominated the air, distributed the ball effectively, and even ventured forward on occasion.
Ferland Mendy (7/10): He handled his defensive tasks well and played safe in possession. However, his injury continues to create concern.
Real Madrid’s Midfield
Federico Valverde (7/10): Loads were run and the area was maintained neat. His midweek mistake had no visible impact.
Jude Bellingham (8/10): He worked his socks off and scored Madrid’s opening goal. He has scored in five consecutive games. Produced an excellent assist on the second. After an hour, I was removed due to an obvious leg injury. I’ll hope it’s nothing serious.
Luka Modric (8/10): There were some wobbly moments in the first half, but it picked up in the second. He contributed to the second goal and helped set up the third with a wonderful through ball.
Arda Guler (7.0/10): I scored a fantastic second and danced the entire time. He appears to have a true talent.
Real Madrid Attack
Kylian Mbappe (7/10): Busy in the first half, with a few half chances. Scored the clinching third goal.
Brahim Diaz (5/10): Another game in which he accomplished many interesting things but had little material impact.
Real Madrid’s impressive 3-0 win over Girona demonstrated their perseverance and quality, signaling a successful return to form. Los Blancos produced a polished display, with exceptional performances from Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappé, and Arda Güler, that boosted confidence ahead of a crucial Champions League meeting. This victory not only strengthens their position in La Liga but also sends a strong message: Madrid is back in business.
